Visakhapatnam: A boy who returned from the UK to Visakhapatnam along with his parents tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday.

The health officials sent the samples of the seven-year-old boy to the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology in Hyderabad to rule out any chance of the new mutant virus strain.

With this, Visakhapatnam registered its first coronavirus positive case of a UK returnee, who arrived in the city over a week before.

District Medical and Health Officer PS Suryanarayana said the boy is kept in isolation. "However, his parents and sibling tested negative for the virus. The exercise of tracing the contacts of the boy was also done and none of them reported positive," he said.

The health officials said that contact tracing efforts were stepped up to contain the spread of the virus.
