Amaravati: Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy here on Saturday advised the officials to a door-to-door campaign to educate people about the necessity to get tested for coronavirus if symptoms were present without fail. Advising people that there should be no stigma attached to the affliction with the virus, Jagan said it was the duty of the people to bring to the notice of the authorities any Covid case.
The officials should distribute pamphlets to all the households in the state to educate them about "Covid, like any other disease" so that people volunteer to get tested. Assuring the people that there was no need to fear the virus as the government was fully geared up to treat the same, he pointed out to the recovery rate in the state from Covid which was steadily growing.
The Chief Minister reviewed the Covid-19 situation in Andhra Pradesh which on Saturday reported 48 new positive cases, which brought the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 2,205. According to the health bulletin issued by state medical department, currently there are 803 active cases. AP has reported one death due to the killer virus on Saturday taking the toll to 49 in the state.
A total of 1,353 Covid-19 patients were completely cured and discharged from the state-run hospitals till date. The state government has conducted testing on 9,628 samples in the past 24 hours, out of which 48 samples were tested positive.
District wise reported Covid-19 cases for the last 24 hours: Guntur : 9, Kurnool : 9, Nellore: 9, Chittoor : 8, Visakhapatnam : 4, Krishna : 7, Kadapa : 1 and West Godavari: 1.
On the other hand, the coronavirus recovery rate in the state is also steadily growing with each passing day.State has recorded the highest recovery rate in the country at 53.44 per cent, which is significantly higher than India's average recovery rate of 32.9 per cent. A total of 101 Covid-19 patients were completely cured and discharged from state-run hospitals in the past 24 hours.
Turning his attention to the migrants plight, the Chief Minister said it was heart-wrenching to see thousands of them walking on the hot summer days to reach their destinations thousands of kilometres away. While advising the authorities to arrange transportation 'without fail' to all those alongside providing shelter and food, he asked people too to cooperate in this regard.
"All citizens should come forward to help the migrants reach their homes. They are our brethren, after all and it is our duty to look after their welfare," he added. He said everyone of the workers seen walking must be put in buses and dropped at the state borders. "Don't charge them a single paise," he warned the officials.
