Pantula Rama, a Carnatic music exponent from the city, has been selected for the 10th Indira Sivasailam Endowment Award 2019.

Visakhapatnam: Pantula Rama, a Carnatic music exponent from the city, has been selected for the 10th Indira Sivasailam Endowment Award 2019.

The Indira Sivasailam Endowment fund aims at recognising and promoting Carnatic musicians. The selection of the awardee is based on the specific criteria which includes excellence in performance, audience appeal, adherence to classical tradition while innovating within its framework and depth of knowledge, among other parameters.

This year, the Indira Sivasailam Foundation is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Rama hails from a family of musicians and scholars. Her father, Pantula Gopala Rao is a well-known violinist and her mother Padmavathi, an accomplished Veena artiste.

As a teacher and arts advocate, Rama believes in inspiring and shaping the next generation of music aspirants to pursue arts as a lifestyle and career. Through her socio-cultural movement, 'PaRa – the Supreme', she aims to create and heighten the awareness of classical music with openness towards other genres of music.

The medal presentation ceremony and The Indira Sivasailam Endowment concert will be held at the Madras Music Academy, Chennai on October 4 at 6 pm.
