Vijayawada: Chief Secretary LV Subramanyam flagged off the Walk-Clean programme, organised by the Amaravati Walkers and Runners Association (AWARA) at Kondaveeti Vagu pumping station on Sunday.

The AWARA members, walkers, runners, cyclists, students from Vijayawada and Guntur gathered and cleaned the lush green parks and lawns surrounding the hillside pumping station, which had been developed at a cost of Rs 237 crore in the past.

In the past five months, the lawn and greenery was dumped with plastic and other waste that has been left untouched. Hundreds of AWARA members have worked hard over the past four weeks to bring these parks back into reuse.

Speaking on the occasion, Subramanyam appreciated the AWARA members and volunteers for their initiative to clean up the surrounding areas of Kondaveeti Vagu pumping station.

AWARA founder Prof Ajay Katragadda explained how the lush green park and lawn can be used for health and mental recreation and Yoga. Dr Madhu, Sridevi, Nalini, Atnaram, Amaravati Cycle Club team, swimmers Ramesh, Jaswanth and others were present.
