Anantapur: People living in extension areas surrounding the municipal corporation limits and also those living in that areas which were merged into the Anantapur Municipal Corporation limits are subject to intense hardships especially during rainy season due to absence of drains or a regulated drainage system.

In the absence of drainage system every household is digging pits and diverting domestically used water into the pits. In the rainy season the rain water is submerging roads and people are forced to remain in-doors as they have to wade through knee deep water, making life miserable.

Since most of these water logged areas do not come under the municipality, there is none to hear the woes of these people. Gafoor, an advocate and resident of Narayanapuram Panchayat told 'The Hans India' that the people in the residential areas of Allurisitharamnagar and Stalin Colony were unable to attend to their daily works like taking their children to school, in view of water logging.

He stated that it is high time the Town and Country Planning or the Anantapur-Hindupur Urban Develpment Authority (AHUDA) intervene and implement a planned drainage system for all the government weaker section housing layouts as well as other private unapproved layouts.

He bemoaned that the Panchyat which is seized of the local problems does not have the funds to execute drainage system. Local residents say that due to water logging, the pits filled with water are turning into mosquito breeding units.
