Srikakulam: Development activities shall not be stopped in the State and welfare schemes will also be continued for poor people, said Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Revenue, Stamps and Registrations Dharmana Krishna Das.

He arrived in the district for the first time on Wednesday after getting elevated as Deputy Chief Minister.

On the occasion, Krishna Das received grand welcome from the party leaders and activists in the district. Officials from different departments also called on the Deputy Chief Minister.

On his arrival here, Krishna Das garlanded the statue of former Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in the city. Addressing a meeting, he said that development works and welfare schemes will be continued in the district even during the period of the pandemic.

Funds are being allotted to development activities like roads, projects, irrigation works, lift irrigation schemes and welfare schemes like Amma Vodi, enhancement of social security pensions for aged people, YSR Aarogyasri, Sunna Vaddi (zero interest), free ration and house sites allotment etc will be continued, he said.

He also elaborated that under the YSR Cheyutha, women aged between 45 and 60 years were being paid Rs 18,750 as financial aid every year and for four years every woman will get Rs 75,000 from the government and it is for financial sustainability of women belonging to SC, ST and BC categories.

The Deputy Chief Minister criticised that during the TDP regime, people were facing trouble and the party leaders also harassed the poor people. Now such kind of situation does not prevail in any part of the State, he pointed out.
