Guntur: Cotton, paddy and other crops may be damaged due to the rains caused by Cyclone Nivar in Guntur district since Thursday morning. According to official sources,paddy fields ready to harvest in over 13,000 hectares in Tenali revenue division of Guntur district likely to be damaged.

Due to heavy gales paddy fields have fallen to the ground. If rain continues, for one more day, the yield will be affected. The farmers will get heavy loss due to crop damage. Similarly, the farmers cultivated paddy in the Nagarjunasagar right canal ayacut area of Guntur district.

Similarly, cotton, chilli crops may be damaged in Gurazala,Narasaraopet and Guntur revenue divisions of Guntur district due to rain. The agriculture officials are expecting that the cotton yield ready for picking will be damaged. As a result, the farmers will get inferior quality of cotton.

It may be mentioned that the cotton gardens have already damaged due to rains and floods in September and October.As a result, the farmers got less yield. The farmers who got upto 20quintals yield per acre, will get only ten quintals this year.

Chilli, maize crops likely to be damaged due to the impact of rain. If rain continues for one more day, chilli, turmeric, banana, red gram, black gram, maize and vegetable gardens in Tenali, Bhattiprolu,Kolluru,Kollipara and Repalle mandals of Guntur district will be affected.
