Guntur: BJP State president Kanna Lakshminarayana criticised the State government for hiking the power tariff and imposing additional financial burden on consumers. He undertook one-hour Deeksha along with the BJP leaders at his residence in Kannavarithota here on Tuesday protesting against hiking of tariff and sale of government lands under Build AP. Speaking on this occasion, he said that even while the people were suffering due to lockdown caused by Covid-19, the government hiked the power bills. He regretted that the government was least bothered about welfare of people. He further said that based on the last year power consumption, the discoms classified the consumers into A,B and C categories and were collecting the bills.

He said due to the classification, poor and middle class families slabs were changed and they were shifted to C category resulting in increase in the current bills. He said, "I had paid Rs 11,541 electricity bill in March, for the month of April-2020, I got bill for Rs 20,000 and demanded the government to withdraw the power tariff hike immediately." He felt that it is not correct to sell government lands for Build AP. He opposed the proposal of the government to sell the market place where thousands of vegetable vendors depend upon the market. He found fault with the YSRCP government for arresting a senior citizen for her FB posting against the government. He questioned how many will be arrested by the police? He said that it is shame to the government.

Former Minister Ravela Kishore Babu, Dr Sanakkayala Aruna, BJP legal cell State convener Jupudi Ranga Raju, BJP State vice-president R Lakshmipati, BJP leader Pathuri Nagabushanam and BJP Guntur city president Ammisetty Anjaneyulu were among those present.
