Ongole: Prakasam district Superintendent of Police Dr Koya Praveen announced that the Ongole subdivision crime party arrested a five-member interstate gang on Tuesday and recovered gold and silver jewellery and articles worth of Rs 32.4 lakh and two motorcycles from them.

The SP explained that the prime accused Saleti Venkateswarlu of Kavali was a notorious criminal and about 100 cases were filed against him in Tirupati, Nellore, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, West Godavari districts and 15 non-bailable warrants are pending against him as he was seen absconded for two years.

He said that Venkateswarlu formed a gang with Pathan Samiulla of Ongole, Shaik Khaja Shafi Ulla of Chilakaluripet, Shaik Allabhakhu of Kavali and Shaik Bujji of Chilakaluripet and committed burglary.

The accused observes the villages and streets as a merchant of bed sheets or bananas on a cart in the day time and his associates will help him in recce and escaping from the scene of offense.

After the investigation, the SP said that the accused confessed their involvement in five thefts in Visakhapatnam district, five thefts in Guntur district and three crimes in Prakasam district and the police recovered 1 kilogram of gold jewellery, 6 kilogram of silver articles from their procession.

The SP appreciated DSP T Radhesh Murali, Singarayakonda CI B Prabhakar, Ongole Town II CI G Ramarao, Singarayakonda SIs G Somasekhar, V Nagamalleswara Rao, ASI Gurram Prasad and other members of the sub-divisional crime party and distributed monetary rewards to them in his office.
