Kurnool: Banginpalli mango is one of the finest fruit varieties that everyone wants to taste. The mango variety has also got geographical identity with which it has become famous across the globe. Earlier the Nawabs of Banaganapalle in Kurnool district had introduced the mango variety centuries ago.

The mango is also known as "Benisan" in other areas and "Laddu Pasand" in local area. It is mainly grown in rain fed areas. This particular variety is widely cultivated in Kurnool, Krishna, West Godavari, Prakasam and Chittoor districts in state. It is also cultivated in Khammam, Adilabad, Karimnagar and Medak districts of Telangana. These mangoes are large sized, weighing 400 to 900 grams. The pulp is fiberless, firm and yellow with sweet taste.

This season the sweet fruit tastes sour to the people of Kurnool district. With the lockdown effect, the fruits are left un-plucked from the trees. The farmers who have raised the crop are in neck deep troubles with no purchasers coming forward. The farmers are ardently waiting for the purchasers so that they can get some income.

A famer and a fruit vendor, Syed Hussain said to The Hans India that the lockdown has put a great impact on their lives. The lockdown further added to the woes of adverse climatic conditions in the district. Due to adverse climatic conditions, the yield was very less and that too was left on to the trees without plucking. We are not getting purchasers.

He further said though the governments have relaxed restrictions on horticulture, agriculture and other sectors. But limited number of purchasers have come forward and some of them went back fearing due to the virus. If we want to sell retail in the open market it is also not allowed. This year almost all mango growers have incurred huge losses. Syed Hussain urged the government to help all mango growers to come out of the crisis.
