Kurnool: The Youth Welfare department & Setkur jointly conducted a work shop on `Women empowerment and self-defence' at Osmania Degree College for Women here on Thursday.

Setkur Chief Executive Officer (CEO) T Nagaraj Naidu and Osmania Degree College special officer Niyaz Parveen addressed the participants. Addressing the gathering, Nagraraj Naidu said the government has been implementing several laws to ensure women security.

She teams (special police force) besides 100, 112, 1090 and 181 toll free numbers were brought in to service. Even a special app was also developed so that information could be extended through smart phone. Girl students and women in distress are suggested to know about women laws, toll free numbers and mobiles.

They have to educate other women and girl children, stated Nagaraj Naidu. Osmania Degree College for Women special officer Niyaz Parveen said the unfortunate rape and murder incident at Shamshabad has moved almost all the people of two Telugu speaking states.

The women are going to faraway places for education or employment and should be always alert. She thanked the Setkur and youth welfare department for conducting awareness work shop.

CEO of Women Army Organisation (WAO) Dr Surekha Raja Reddy, along with her staff, presented a programme on how to defend themselves in times of distress. She also educated the students to use the available material like hair pins, pen, mobile and hand bag as weapons to defend the attacks. Setkur Manager PV Raana, staff Mohinuddin, Shaik Sha Ali, Moulali, Chandrudu and others participated.
