Amaravati: Jana Chaitanya Vedika president Vallamreddy Lakshmana Reddy has been appointed as president of committee for creating awareness on the ill-effects of consumption of liquor.
A former Economics lecturer, who worked for TJPS College in Guntur, Lakshmana Reddy has been instrumental in various awareness programmes on the ill-effects of consumption of liquor across the state.
The committee headed by him would study the policies of prohibition implemented in other states and submit a report to the government. The panel would also study the structure and functioning of de-addiction centres in other states and submit a report in consultation with the health, medical and family welfare departments for establishment of similar centres in the state.
The committee would also conduct seminars and meetings with the students, youth wings and university coordinators for effective education on the evils of alcohol consumption. However, the role of committee is advisory in nature in the government's continuous endeavour to create awareness among people.
