MCT is constructing 13 Earth Level Service Reservoirs ( ELSRs) in the city for better water supply to citizens. Civic body spends more than Rs 14.5 crore to construct the reservoirs

Tirupati: The 13 Earth Level Service Reservoirs which are being constructed at a cost of Rs 14.5 crore by the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati in city bare nearing completion. These 13 Reservoirs are being constructed under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (Amrut) scheme with Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India funds. Municipal Commissioner PS Girisha advised the officials to complete all the pending works before the end of February. MCT plans to supply water at least per one hour in a day to the residents of the city.

The construction of ELSRs are nearing completion near MR Palli Library, Padmavati Park , Srinivasapuram, Auto Nagar, Postal Colony, Railway Colony, SPJNM School ground, NGOs Colony, Municipal park, Medical College campus, Sriram Nagar, Madhura Nagar and Bhupal Colony. Commissioner instructed the engineers recently that they have to speed the works to complete all pending works regarding laying of pipe lines and giving tap connections.

Presently, residents in many areas are facing problems to get sufficient drinking water through Telugu Ganga or Kalyani Dam. MCT has come forward to construct a number of water storage reservoirs in the city to cover all the residential areas including those on the outskirts.

Earlier, ELSRs were availed only in three areas of the city. Out of 13 ELSRs, 6 were completed fully, and are ready to supply water to residents. Remaining are also in completion stage.
