Ongole : The government should distribute two cents of land in urban and three cents of land in rural areas for housing on December 25, demanded the state secretary of Communist Party of India, K Ramakrishna in Ongole on Monday.

He participated in the 'Chalo Collectorate' programme by the CPI and announced full support to the Bharat Bandh on Tuesday and warned the Telugu Desam and YSR Congress parties that they should also support the national strike to get a place in history.

The CPI district unit organised the Chalo Collectorate programme demanding the government to distribute housing plots to all poor people. Ramakrishna said that the government was, at last, coming forward to distribute the housing sites on December 25, but it should increase the extent of land to a minimum of 2 cents in urban and to 3 cents in rural areas to meet the basic requirements of the families.

He condemned the remarks of the BJP to distribute the plots on any other day, but not on Christmas, and announced that the day on which the poor receives the housing sites is the true festival day. He said that the government announces to distribute 30 lakh plots, and alleged that most of them are the supporters of the ruling party leaders. He demanded the government to act transparently and see only the eligible families receive the housing site.

He claimed the credit for the government responding to the TIDCO houses. He said that the government, which neglected the pleas of the beneficiaries of TIDCO houses for 18 months, responded at last after CPI started the agitation and got ready to organise housewarming ceremonies on November 14.

He demanded the government to complete the infrastructure work and payback the deposits to the beneficiaries and waive the TIDCO housing loans. He announced support to the Bharat Bandh programme in support of the farmers agitating with a demand to repeal the agriculture laws. He said that about 14 political parties and trade unions already announced support for the farmers' agitation and demanded the YSRCP and TDP to extend the support.

The CPI district secretary ML Narayana, town secretary Sd Sardar, AIKSCC district coordinator Chunduri Ranagrao, CPI leaders R Venkatrao, Vadde Hanumareddy, Ande Nasaraiah, K Veerareddy, and others also participated in the programme.
