In a ghastly road accident took place near Ongole Sanghamitra Hospital in Prakasam district, a maxi vehicle collided with a parked truck. At the same time, Maxi was hit by another truck from behind, which resulted in death of two passengers and at least eight were injured. Police reached the spot with the information of the locals and took relief measures and were trying to retrieve those who have trapped in the vehicle. It is learnt that the victims were going to wedding party from Tirupati to Tenali. Maxi vehicle, on the other hand, was crushed in the incident. The police who registered the case found that the drivers of the two lorries had fled the scene.
According to the police, the accident took place when the victims attended a marriage of a couple from Pinapadu village in Tenali mandal of Guntur in Tirumala on Saturday. The bride and groom then traveled in one vehicle, while 10 relatives of the two families returning to Tenali in another vehicle. The lorry driver, who was going in front of the vehicle in which the relatives were traveling, suddenly applied brakes as it approached Ongole on Sunday morning. The bridal party vehicle collided with the truck and just before recovering from it, another vehicle came from behind and collided head-on.
The vehicle in which the wedding party was traveling was crushed between the two. Among the 10 passengers were the groom's uncle Satyanarayana (70) and grandmother Annapurnamma (65) who died on the spot. The rest were trapped inside the vehicle and were pulled out by police and firefighters with the help of a crane. The injured were rushed to Ongole KIMS Hospital.
