Coronavirus in Srikakulam: The corona positive cases crossed 1,053 mark in the district on Sunday. First Covid positive case was reported in Pathapatnam mandal in the last week of April. On Friday,

alone 72 cases were reported, on Saturday another 76 cases detected and on Sunday, in total 113 positive cases identified. Till Sunday, the total positive cases in the district is 1,053.

By Saturday evening, in total 98,359 samples were collected from across the district and on Sunday, 1,700 samples were collected from those who reported Covid symptoms. Samples were collected from 1,00,059 suspected persons till Sunday evening across the district. Covid reached to mass level in the district and spreading rapidly day by day. In the wake of outbreak of Covid positive cases, containment zones declared in all urban areas across the district. In the district, some parts in Srikakulam city, Amudalavalasa, Itchapuram, Palasa, Rajam and Palakonda municipal towns were declared as containment zones.

In semi-urban areas like Narasannapeta, Sompeta, Tekkali, Ranastalam also containment zones were identified to prevent people movement in the wake of outbreak of positive cases. "Covid prevention is only in the hands of people at this juncture as it is reached to mass level and spreading rapidly," district surveillance officer (DSO) for Covid-19 cases Dr Bagadi Jagannadha Rao said. Every individual need to follow precautionary measures strictly to prevent spreading of Covid-19, the DSO added.
