Kakinada: Agriculture Minister Kurasala Kannababu said that reorganisation of cooperative department would be done in a big way in the State for its effective functioning.

Speaking to the media at his camp office here on Friday, the Minister said that a committee under the aegis of NAFCOM was constituted to study the functioning of cooperative sector in the State with a timeline of three months to submit it report.

He said steps will be taken for improving the performance of the cooperative sector based on the report. He said some irregularities were noticed in cooperative sector and an inquiry was ordered.The Minister said stern action will be taken against those involved in the irregularities.

Kannababu said that there is currently shortage of onion production in the nation and government was supplying oinions at Rs 25 per kilo in Rythu Bazaars through market intervention. He pointed out that nearly 45 lakh farmers families were deriving benefit from YSR Rythu Bharosa and PM Kisan scheme in the State.

The government released a sum of Rs 257 crore in this regard. The Minister requested tenant farmers to soon enroll their names as December 15 is the last date to derive benefit under the scheme.He also requested the bankers to activate defunct bank accounts.

Kannababu said that the YSR Rythu Bharosa scheme was being implemented in a transparent way. He said social audit to assess the quality of services and displaying the names of eligible and ineligible in gram sachivalayams were some of the measures to implement this scheme in a fair manner.

He further said that treating the members of community farming societies as farmers was a remarkable step in the State. The Rythu Bharosa scheme was also being extended to ROFR farmers in tribal areas.
