Visakhapatnam: Commemorating the131st birth anniversary of noted philosopher, educationist and statesman Dr S Radhakrishnan, GITAM Deemed to be University celebrated Teacher's Day here on Thursday. The University honoured distinguished academicians Prof K Ramakrishna Rao, Prof M Gangadhara Rao and Prof K Koteswara Rao for their yeoman contributions to higher education in the country.

GITAM president M Sribharat exhorted the teachers to dedicate themselves to the cause of community as teachers are instrumental in shaping the destiny of the country. GITAM vice-president Prof M Gangadhara Rao advised the faculty to focus on teaching and research to acquire top position in global rankings.

GITAM Chancellor Prof K Ramakrishna Rao mentioned that Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan lengthy writing career and his many published works have been influential in shaping the West's understanding of Hinduism, India, and the East.

As Indian Ambassador in Moscow Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan has managed to change the paradigm of India's relationship with the Soviet Union, GITAM Chancellor recollected. Dr Sarvepalli is my role model, he added.

GITAM Vice-Chancellor Prof K Sivaramakrishna highlighted the role of teacher as Guru who paves the path for all other profession. He appreciated the teachers for their altruistic devotion to their profession.
