The 'Chalo Amaravati' undertaken by the construction workers demanding that the problems be resolved has led to tension. Police prevented the workers from leaving Vijayawada Dasari Bhavan for Amaravati. During this process, a scuffle broke out between the police and the workers. The workers were forcibly arrested by the police from going to Amravati.

Speaking on the occasion, AITUC Secretary of State Thataya said the construction sector had collapsed after YSRCP came to power. He said that due to unemployment, many workers have committed suicide. He strongly condemned the government diverting funds from the Building Welfare Board to other schemes. They demanded that the diverted funds be immediately credited to the Welfare Board.

He warned that the government would cite concern if the problems of construction workers were not addressed immediately. CPM leader CH Babu Rao was placed under house arrest by the police. Several labour leaders have been placed under house arrest and notices issued as part of house arrests in the wake of construction workers' chalo Amaravati. Babu Rao expressed concern that there was no work for construction workers due to the shortage of sand. "Without solving the problems of the workers, arrests are being made. Pre-emptive arrests and crackdowns on the movement are unacceptable," he said.
