This time qualified candidates in various national examinations and getting fellowships will get direct admission into PhD courses

Tirupati : The Research Common Entrance Test (RECET) to be held for admission into PhD courses in various universities in the state will witness significant changes this time. Following UGC guidelines, RECET 2023 will exempt those getting fellowships by qualifying in various national examinations and they will be given direct admission into PhD courses. After filling up of such vacancies, the remaining vacancies will be listed out before issuing the RECET notification probably in August 2023.

The RECET convenor has intimated to the Registrars of all Universities to complete the admissions for those getting fellowships by qualifying in CSIR-NET or UGC-NET or GATE or CEED and similar national level tests based on interviews from May 1 to July 31. After this they have to intimate the remaining vacancies to the Convenor or the Higher Education department based on which the RECET notification will be issued.

Speaking to The Hans India, the convenor of AP RECET-2023 Prof B Deva Prasad Raju said that the CET will be held for the remaining vacancy positions only. Those who want to join PhD courses with Post Graduate qualification alone without qualifying in any of the national level tests should write the RECET. The CET will be held in both research methodology and the subject concerned followed by the interview.

He said that till now, even those who qualified various NETs were asked to write RECET for admission into PhD courses which is now exempted. For this, the government should amend the GO which may be done at any time. Accordingly, the CET is planned to be held in September and by November the admission process has to be completed.

With the new guidelines issued by the UGC, those with PG degree and without qualifying in any of the NETs will find it tough to get admissions as the number of seats will get reduced drastically. Further, there was no faculty recruitment in any of the Universities for over 17 years. With the superannuation of senior faculty and no fresh recruitments, the teaching faculty in universities is in negligible numbers only. This will further reduce the chances of PhD aspirants to fulfil their dreams of getting admission into the research course.
