Ongole: The Prakasam district collector Dr Pola Bhaskara conducted a review meeting with the irrigation, RWS, agriculture and APIIC officials on Thursday and said that the optimum utilisation and conservation programs of water will help in the development of the district and ordered the officials to prepare a detailed plan for the development of lands based on the availability, storage and utilization of water at all minor and major irrigations projects in the district.

The District Collector said that when the officials join together to work for the common cause, the district will start to develop automatically. He said that a new plan should be charted out to end the scarcity of water in the district and implement it perfectly.

He ordered the officials to prepare a plan to fill the 101 tanks in the Veligonda project region and feed 3lakh acres of land with the 10 TMC of water released from it. He said that the government is linking the Godavari with Krishna and that helps the Prakasam to receive water from the Srisailam project.

He announced that about Rs 1050 crores of funds spent in the district last year and ordered the officials to prepare estimates with priority to agriculture and water resources for funds within next 15 days. He ordered the water resources officials to take measures to fill the 300 laskar positions vacant in the district for a while.

To utilize the water going waste into the sea, the Collector ordered the officials to prepare plans to construct check dams and canals to increase the storage capacity of Cumbum, Mopadu, Rallapadu, Ramateertham, Gundlakamma projects and the Paler, Munner and Musi rivulets.

The irrigation Superintending Engineer Reddaiah, RWS SE Sanjeeva Reddy, DRDA PD Elisha, APMIP PD Sarath Babu, horticulture AD Jennamma, animal husbandry JD Ravindranath Tagore, fisheries AD Balaramakrishna Murthy, APMIP ZM ML Narasimha Rao and others also participated in the meeting.
