Vijayawada: As part of the annual tradition, Golden Bonalu were presented to Goddess Kanaka Durga at Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Temple here on Sunday. Interestingly, the Golden Bonalu are being presented every year by the devotees from Telangana.
Bhagyanagar Mahankali Jatara Bonalu Utsava Committee members and other devotees from Hyderabad arrived in Vijayawada on Sunday and visited the Endowment Office located at the Dammidoddi Centre and performed the special pujas. Later, they reached the Durga temple abode Indrakeeladri and presented the Bonalu to the Goddess Kanaka Durga and prayed for the wellbeing of the people. Durga Temple Trust Board Chairman Pyla Sominaidu, members and Executive Office M V Suresh Babu and others welcomed the members of the Bonalu committee. Nearly 40 devotees came from Hyderabad to perform the ritual.
After completing the pujas, the committee members said they were delighted to present the Golden Bonalu to the Goddess Kanaka Durga.
They said they have been presenting Bonalu to the Goddess for the past 11 years. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the number of devotees who came from Hyderabad had declined this year. Every year, more than 200 devotees used to visit the temple to present Bonalu.
