Vijayawada: As the Covid-19 positive cases being reported almost everyday for more than two weeks, the city police have been enforcing the lockdown strictly and collecting penalty from the public for violating the restrictions.

The city police are taking measures to ensure that the people stick to lockdown restrictions.

They are sending the youth to the quarantine centres when they are found loitering in the containment areas. Now, the police are collecting the information like the name, mobile number, vehicle number, address and the purpose for which they have been venturing out of their houses. The police are imposing penalty on those who are found loitering on the roads without valid reason.

On Saturday, the police under the Police Commissionerate limits booked 911 cases for violation of lockdown rules and collected penalty of Rs.5.22 lakh and seized 40 vehicles.

So far, the police seized more than 7,000 vehicles since the lock down began in the last week of March for violation of lockdown rules.

Police and the VMC erected barricades across the city, particularly in the Red Zone areas and hotspot areas. State Disaster Response Force teams are also taking part in the patrolling to check the spread of Covid-19 cases. More than 280 cases were reported under the Police Commissionerate lmits. Spitting on roads will attract penalty of Rs 1,000.
