Visakhapatnam: In tune with the green initiatives organised as part of the Swachhta Pakhwada by the Easter Naval Command, plogging was held on Saturday focusing on the theme, 'Plastic se Raksha – Swachhta he Suraksha.' Personnel from various naval units in Visakhapatnam, Kolkata, Odisha and Tamil Nadu took part in the drive.

Apart from the naval personnel, defence civilians, family members and schoolchildren came together to pick up about 1,500 kg of plastic litter visiting residential areas, sea beaches, naval harbours and other water bodies.

Walkathons, street plays, swachhta march, drawing competitions for children and workshops and lectures formed a part of the on-going campaign.

In Visakhapatnam, plogging was held at INS Kalinga, INS Karna and Naval Coastal Battery (V). INS Dega, INS Eksila, INS Circars, MO(V), WED(V), Eastern Fleet ships and Naval Dockyard (V) conducted the drive.

The main attraction of the activity was the sea surface and underwater cleanup drive by Naval Dockyard (V) and Command Diving Team(V) at Visakhapatnam harbour.
