The World Health Organization Head said on Tuesday that the global mortality rate for Covid-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus was 3.4 per cent.

The organization's director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that Covid-19 is deadlier than the seasonal flu, but does not transmit as quickly. "Globally, about 3.4 per cent of reported Covid-19 cases have died," said Dr Tedros. "By comparison, seasonal flu generally kills far fewer than 1 per cent of those infected."

Active Cases

At present, there are 39,298 patients infected with the deadly virus. Out of which 32,526, i.e. 83 % cases, are in mild condition and 6,772, i.e. 17% is critical.

Closed Cases

There were 54,212 registered cases; 51,009, i.e. 94 % of cases recovered from the COVID-19 and 6% of patients lost their lives to coronavirus.

 Italy's death toll soared to 79 on Tuesday, raising of 27 in one day. 2,502 infections confirmed have been isolated in the northern part of Italy.

 France, announced 21 new infections, jumping its total to 212, and reported one new death.

 The U.S, death toll jumped to nine people, all in Washington State, including seven residents of a nursing home in Kirkland.
