50% quota for BCs in civic polls demanded
President of the BC Welfare Association R Krishnaiah demanded Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to allocate 50 per cent of its tickets to the members belonging to the Backward Classes in the forthcoming municipal elections. On Wednesday, R Krishnaiah wrote a letter to KCR in this regard.

Since reservations to SCs, STs and BCs have been reduced from 62 to 50 per cent through the recent Municipal Bill, based on the Supreme Court ruling, TRS party should consider allocating 50 per cent of its seats to BCs, Krishnaiah said. BCs were angry over the government decision reducing BC reservations for the recently held village panchayat, MPTC and Zilla Parishad elections, he added.
Krishnaiah warned the Chief Minister that the BCs would intensify their struggle if the government reduces the BC reservations for the municipal elections. In view of the ceiling imposed on the total number of reservations, parties could themselves allocate 50 per cent of party tickets to BC candidates, he said.
The Congress party has already announced recently that it would allocate 50 per cent of its seats to the BCs. He appealed BJP and TRS parties to allocate half of their seats to BCs to prove their commitment to BCs.
