Hyderabad: Department for Welfare of Disabled & Senior Citizens will be conducting Awareness Walk on Sunday at Peoples Plaza in view of April 11 General Elections to Lok Sabha.

Speaking to the media here on Friday, B Shailaja, Director & State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities said with a view to fulfill the motto of Elections Commission of India that "No Voter to be Left Behind under Accessible Elections", a number of measures have been initiated to ensure the full inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in the electoral process to enable them to exercise their franchise without any hurdles.

As part of the creation of awareness programme on the importance of voting in a democracy and various facilities provided for PwD in the society, an awareness camp will be organized on Sunday involving government officials, eminent personalities from various fields, various categories of PwDs, PwD activists, NGOs working for empowerment of PwDs.

Around 2,000 PwDs from Hyderabad and surrounding districts were expected to participate in the social and noble cause aimed at strengthening democracy, Shailaja said.
