The Rachakonda Commissionerate cybercrime sleuths on Saturday arrested a cyber hacker Mohammed Muneer Ahmed (22) B Tech (Mechanical Engineering) graduate at Moulali for hacking the Facebook accounts and also sending threatening messages to the complainant through Facebook messenger.

LB Nagar: The Rachakonda Commissionerate cybercrime sleuths on Saturday arrested a cyber hacker Mohammed Muneer Ahmed (22) B Tech (Mechanical Engineering) graduate at Moulali for hacking the Facebook accounts and also sending threatening messages to the complainant through Facebook messenger.

They seized one laptop and one smart phone from the possession of the accused. According to Cybercrime sleuths, based on the complaint registered a case, under sections 506 IPC and Section 66 and 66 (C&D) of IT Act and took up investigation.

The accused Muneer Ahmed, while doing his B Tech course, participated in a workshop on ethical hacking and learnt about the techniques involved in hacking of accounts. Later, he created a Facebook account in the name of 'Melin Sophia' and introduced himself as a female to the complainant and later asked the complainant to click on a phishing link which he created.

Once the link was clicked by the complainant, the accused received the user name and password of the Facebook account of the complainant and changed it. Later, he started threatening the complainant after procuring his bank details. Police traced the accused at Moulali and produced him before the court.

The cybercrime sleuths advise people not to click on links sent to their mobile phones and social media accounts from strangers who may trick them into giving out all their credentials.
