Prasads Multiplex started a new initiative that is set to entertain and educate people about global warming and also about protection wildlife at the Arctic and Antarctic region. Hareesh Ramachandran, the person who designed the project shared his views on the new initiative.
Excerpts from an interview:
How did the idea come up?
These kinds of films are not available in India, as of now, and Prasad is the first company to bring in such films. The other developed markets have these kinds of films and people watch them and that's why people are aware of what is happening around. For a parent or a teacher it is extremely difficult to explain what is the Arctic, the Antarctic, they can show it on YouTube or in any other way where the influence level is very minimal.
If you expose them to such films they will understand it even better. As a responsible citizen of this earth, we need to take up these projects. This is the first series where we talk about two different poles and how different they are and how we are getting affected. The other series talks about fishes and underwater life.
What age groups are targeted for the movies?
The major and primary audience is the students of Class IV and above. However, the films are so good and educative that even people in their 70s will enjoy watching them.
Why is that you are targeting teachers and lecturers first?
We are giving an orientation session for the teachers first and then the students would come and watch these movies as they will be in a better position to encourage students.
How far this could help students?
A child's mind is very creative and when they see certain things like the greenhouse gas emission they will ask their teachers and parents. Children will start practising things that will protect the environment.
The movie 'To the Arctic' is a 40-minute truth that is happening in the Arctic region. The polar bears in this region were much focused on as the movie explained how these bears are finding a place where there is snow to live.
If there is snow it is like Paradise to these bears, and so the movie shows that in the Arctic region due the global warming the summers have been a bit longer and so the ice in the region is melting quite soon which is illustrated in the movie very well.
The second half of the movie was 'Antarctica on the Edge', which was a 40-minute description of the melting of Antarctica due to the greenhouse effect. There have also been scenes in the movie that showed the life of penguins and other animals that are getting extinct. The melting of huge icebergs and the freezing ocean can be focused as a matter of concern.
Overall these movies on the big screen with 3D experience would defiantly make you feel responsible towards the climatic changes happening and also would give you a sight of how worse the conditions on the earth have become.
