A delegation consisting of organisers of Bonalu and Moharrum processions on Wednesday met Home Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali and urged him to find out a permanent solution for providing an elephant for participating in these processions, instead of bringing an elephant on hire from the neighboring States.

Hyderabad: A delegation consisting of organisers of Bonalu and Moharrum processions on Wednesday met Home Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali and urged him to find out a permanent solution for providing an elephant for participating in these processions, instead of bringing an elephant on hire from the neighboring States.

The delegation also requested the Home Minister to file a review petition against the orders of the High Court by the State government to get suitable orders to provide elephant from the Nehru Zoological Park.

The Minister promised to take up the matter with Endowment Minister A Indrakaran Reddy to consider the issue favorably as it was a traditional practice and involved religious sentiments of the people. G Niranjan, president, K Dattatraya, secretary, respectively of Sri Akkanna-Madanna Mahankali Mandiram, and Aliuddin Arif (Mujawer Al Awa BiBi), general secretary, Fatima's Seva Dal Society, were among those who called on the Home Minister.
