Locals allege cops not rounding up ubiquitous gangs of anti-socials

Bagh Lingampally: Residents of Bagh Lingampally, particularly women and children, near Sundarayya Park want police to act against anti-social activities that have been happening in their areas for years.

The locals have been facing hardships and there have been instances of misbehavior with as well as harassment of women. The locals also alleged that the police were never found doing any patrolling in the area.

In a recent incident a few months ago, one of the local residents Shikha Gandhi was eve-teased by a few young boys, while she was going on an evening walk with her dog. Shikha said, "Whenever I pass from this lane, there is always a group of boys who sitting all over in the lane. They stare and pass vulgar comments which can make any women uncomfortable. There is a colony park in this where I used to go before with my dog for a walk."

"One day there were a few boys having drugs and threw stones on me and my dog and passed comments. When I approached a few police officials almost near the park, they just did not take any action on this. This colony park was turned more like an anti-social activities 'adda' where we do not feel safe to go or pass from there," adds Shikha.

The area SHO claims that they have been continuously doing late night patrols and nabbing offenders when found. However the locals deny the same happening. When asked The Station House Official (SHO) Shiva Shankar Rao says they have been nabbing four to five people per day for the last couple of months. "After the recent incidents we have increased our patrolling and is not letting the shops be open after 11:00 PM," he adds further.
