Garbage bins put up at wrong spots serving no purpose
The garbage boxes put up by the GHMC to segregate wet and dry waste in areas not accessible to people are lying not serving the purpose. They have become just decorative pieces. The residents here point out that they have not been able to use the boxes, as they seem to have been thrown at some spots.

The GHMC officials are receiving flak for wasting public money on garbage boxes at places that are not reachable to people. For example, in Begumpet, the aim of the civic body in making the city garbage-free is going for a toss, as the boxes are placed in areas not easily reachable to people.
They are lying waste in areas like Prakash Nagar, Shyamlal Building, Patigadda, residents told The Hans India. They say that such boxes should be placed not on main roads, but in the residential areas.
Garbage piling up
Meanwhile, the garbage has been piling up in areas like Adddagutta, Ambedkar Nagar, Tukaram Gate, Mangarodi Basti and in open places, emanating unbearable stench during nights. The locals told THI that garbage has not been lifted in Lohiya Nagar for several days, with officials and people's representatives not bothering about the issue.
In a related development, the Swachh autos deployed to collect garbage seem to be causing a headache to the GHMC officials. They have been allotted two years back under subsidy to youth to provide them self-employment under the Swacch Sarvekshan. Each auto costs Rs 4 lakh with the GHMC paying the EMIs. Each vehicle has been allotted for 600 houses to collect garbage.
There are public complaints that the Swachh autos are not regularly collecting garbage from the allotted houses and that they are taking amounts ranging from Rs 100 to Rs 200 from each house. The GHMC officials are reportedly unable to take back the autos and can't stop the EMI, as they are answerable to the banks.
