GHMC turns focus on containing fevers

GHMC entomology, sanitation and health departments started their works for larvae eradication, removing water stagnation and bringing awareness in people on being safe from diseases like dengue, malaria, etc. The GHMC commissioner, DS Lokesh Kumar conducted a review meeting on the works of entomology department regarding fogging and spraying.
Lokesh Kumar said, "There is a chance of increase in mosquitoes due to heavy rains, so anti-larva spraying is being done on a war footing in all schools and public places. Awareness need to be created among people on seasonal diseases and keep them safe." He further added, "A staff of 2,375 members from entomology department are working on larva prevention and pollution eradication works."
AWARENESS PROGRAMMES
Awareness programmes are being taken up regularly involving schools. So far, 1,266 schools have been covered under mosquito control awareness campaign. Sensitised Town Level Federation (TLF) and Slum Level Federation (SLF) women groups are involved. 4 lakh pamphlets were distributed to people through SHGs. 642 ALO teams working to bring awareness in people on mosquito control measures and vector-borne diseases. Bulk SMS have been sent to 24 lakh property and tax payers, Trade License holders on declaring Friday as dry day.
GHMC has developed mosquito application with 17 informative questions on dengue, malaria and mosquito life cycle, breeding habits and source reduction methods, etc. This is an innovative attempt to familiarize the public with mosquito control and preventive methods. The app is available in my GHMC app in play store and till date, 6.5 lakh people participated in the quiz.
PREVENTION MEASURES
Weekly anti-larval operations are being taken up with 642 teams as per the Pin Point Programme (PPP) in domestic, peri-domestic mosquito breeding sources (house to house) every day covering an average of 1.50 lakh houses. 18 anti-larval operation (ALO) teams with 54 workers are carrying out anti larval operations in Musi river from Attapur to Chaderghat bridge for edge cleaning and spraying.
Removal of hyacinth from tanks is being taken up at regular intervals. Day-to-day fogging is being done for control of mosquitoes with 150 portable and 13 vehicle mounted fogging machines covering 225 kms and 45,000 houses. Indoor pyrethrum space spray, larval survey and fogging activities are being taken-up for all the reported cases of dengue and malaria for arresting further transmission.
SPECIAL MEASURES
- 2,348 schools are covered under indoor residual spray and fogging for prevention of dengue and malaria
- 1st phase special drive programme conducted in 118 mosquito prone localities from April 1 to 20
- 2nd Phase special drive programmes and health camps conducted in 275 weak localities in collaboration with entomology and health department from July 11 to 30
- 3rd phase special drive programmes and health camps conducted in 472 weak localities from Aug 16 to 30
