Rs 35 cr earmarked; to be used for organ transplantations

Hyderabad: The Telangana health department has decided to build 5 state-of-the-art OTs (Operation Theatres) for performing organ transplantations at Gandhi hospital with a budget of Rs 35 crore.

Liver transplantation, Kidney transplantation etc that cost Rs 30 to 40 lakh rupees in private hospitals would be done in Gandhi once these OTs come into effect in 9 months time from now.

Health Minister Eatala Rajender held a review with senior officials of the department on this issue on Tuesday. He wanted these OTs should be equipped with all facilities and convenience of doctors and medical staff, who spend 20 hours at a stretch for conducting operations, also has to be taken care of.

Earlier, ministers and senior officials had a meeting with device manufacturers and dealers as the government decided to procure 3 MRI, 11 CT Scan machines as well as 3 Cardiac Cath labs.

Eatala appealed to the companies to quote a very reasonable price without big profit motives as the government was buying these to give quality healthcare for the poor in the State. He wanted them to quote low and best prices for these machines.
