Hyderabad: With special emphasis on balancing both religious and modern education for girls, an Islamic seminary 'Jamia Riyaz us Salehath' was opened for women on 7-Tombs Road in Toli Chowki on Sunday.

Renowned Islamic Scholar Maulana Mohammed Yusuf Islahi, while inaugurating the seminary, said that the first verse revealed in the Holy Quran proclaims its readers 'to read.' Education plays a pivotal role in character building of an individual. "Blend of worldly education with knowledge of divine revelation, is the need of the hour. An education that gets one closer to creator is the best education one can attain," he noted.

The scholar also emphasized that Islamic history presents multiple examples wherein women showed their expertise in various fields of life. "Nothing can be greater than women, under whose feet lies the paradise (Prophet's saying underscoring the importance of mother). It goes without saying that the future of the community is in the lap of our mothers," he added.

Various Islamic scholars of Hyderabad, including Mufti Sadiq Mohiuddin Faheem, professor Mohsin Usmani Nadwi, Mufti Mahboob Shareef Nizami, Mohammed Azharuddin, Hafez Rashaduddin and Maulana Aijaz Mohiuddin Waseem addressed the gathering and regarded that the establishment of educational institutions that promoted the Islamic teachings of peace, justice and divinity among women as the pressing need of the hour. The function was attended by a wide cross section of audience.
