Following a sudden and long downpour on Thursday night, the roads in the city have become water bodies. Nearly 10 to 15 cm rain was recorded in areas like Gudimalkapur, Red Hills, Nampally, Sri Nagar colony, Jubilee Hills, Karvan and Asif Nagar.

Hyderabad: Following a sudden and long downpour on Thursday night, the roads in the city have become water bodies. Nearly 10 to 15 cm rain was recorded in areas like Gudimalkapur, Red Hills, Nampally, Sri Nagar colony, Jubilee Hills, Karvan and Asif Nagar.

City Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan reviewed the situation regularly. He conducted tele-conference with GHMC commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar, Zonal commissioners, vigilance director Viswajit Kampati and alerted them.

Monsoon Emergency Teams (MET) were allotted immediately to the areas with water and started supportive activities. DRF teams removed many trees which are fallen on roads.

The sidewall of a nala into Hussain Sagar was washed away and water entered Madarsa Maktha Basthi opposite Raj Bhavan. On receipt of information, DRF teams and MET teams rushed to the location at about 4 am and took up supportive activities. Nearly 200 houses in the area are filled with water up to knee level. Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan visited MS Maktha and supervised the works.

DRF teams went to East Anand Bagh area with the help of special boats and rescued some people to safe places and distributed regular utilities like milk, bread and biscuits to the rest.

DRF and MET teams mainly worked in Begumpet, Anand Bagh, Chandanagar, Kukatpally and Charminar which are filled completely with water. These teams worked hard and made people feel comfortable without any problem. Hyderabad citizens are appreciating the works of GHMC, MET and DRF teams.
