Hyderabad: In a record of sorts, the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) for the first time pressed into service 120 extra trips to meet the heavy rush on Monday. Ever since the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) employees started the strike, the turnout for Metro rail that was 3 lakh per day has gone up to 3.5 lakh. But on Monday, the ridership reached its peak and touched almost 4 lakh.

Overall, the HMR operated 830 trips in a single day. Right from morning hours, the Metro trains were flooded with passengers, and in certain stations one could see passengers almost hanging at the entrance, a la RTC bus. The frequency of the trains was also increased. The trains were available every three minutes. During non-peak hours, the frequency was set between 6 and 7 min.
