One who ignores disabled is a disabled oneself
The World Disabled People’s Day was celebrated by the Forum for Rights of Disabled Persons at People’s plaza in Necklace Road on Tuesday. Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, along with SC Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar and Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, attended as the chief guest at the programme.

Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, along with SC Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar and Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, attended as the chief guest at the programme.
The Speaker said a person who ignores a disabled one is really a disabled himself. He appreciated a blind employee of Saroonagar, who was working with Andhra Bank, for helping other disabled persons get accommodation, study and even get married. Taking support of his wife, the blind employee was rendering a great job, the Speaker noted. He also said he would participate in the birthday celebrations of that person on December 14. He called upon people to follow him and help disabled and those in distress.
Srinivas Reddy noted that the State government was providing Rs 25,000 subsidy for battery-operated cycles to disabled. with Rs 12,000 contribution from voluntary organisations.
The government offered support to the disabled sowing commercial crops. This was possible with foresight and vision of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, he said, adding that the Telangana State was alone giving Rs 3,016 pension to disabled persons.
For their welfare, the government was trying to implement 16 GOs besides supporting NGOs for their cause, Eshwar said. The government was implementing 15 GOs prepared for the welfare of disabled people. Telangana state achieved national level awards in the welfare programmes of handicapped. It would support the welfare organisations which strive for the development of such people, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan said, "Disability will not stop the development of any person if he is mentally strong. There are many such people who reached heights."
Later, the Speaker flagged off a 500-meter walk.
Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin, Central Minister Kishan Reddy wife Kavya Kishan Reddy, Jagadishwar, Siktha Patnaik, Tirupathayya, Kolli Nageswara Rao, J Parasuram, D Suresh Kumar and others were found.
