Secunderabad: The 96th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister and founder of Telugu Desam Party Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao was celebrated on a grand note at Padmarao Nagar Colony on Tuesday. TDP state BC secretary Krishna Pujari organized the celebrations. Telugu Desam state executive secretary Sripathi Satish attended the celebrations as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Sripathi Satish said that NTR, who was a top Telugu actor, formed the government within nine months after the formation of the party, despite lacking political experience. NTR believed society is a temple and people are Gods, he said. He was the first leader to provide basic amenities, such as food and shelter, and to provide rice to the poor at Rs 2 per kg, he said.

Explaining various initiatives for women welfare, Sripathi Satish said NTR had provided equal property rights to women and implemented liquor ban on their request. He not only demonstrated the greatness of Telugu people to the nation, but also preserved their self-pride, he said. Satish also lauded NTR for taking the governance to the doorsteps of the people for the first time through innovative programs, such as 'Prajala Vaddaku Palana' and 'Janmabhoomi.'
