Khammam: The members of the District Congress Committee observed the 72nd death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and paid tributes to the Father of the Nation at a programme held at the party office in Khammam on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, District Congress Committee president Puvvala Durga Prasad recalled the services of Mahatma Gandhi to the nation and spoke at length about the non-violence movement initiated by the Mahatma for the country's independence. He garlanded a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi and paid tributes.

Similarly, the leaders of Communist Party of India organised a programme on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's death anniversary. Party district secretary Nunna Nageswara Rao along with party leaders garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Khammam town.

Later, the leaders spoke about Mahatma Gandhi and the steps he took to make the country free from the clutches of British said that non-violence was the need of the hour to bring the political and social change in the country.
