Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) handled 38-metre beam and 229.20-metre length vessel for the first time.

Piloted by Captain Vijay Prakash and Captain R C Sarma, the vessel W. OSLO discharged South African Steam Coal on account of Sharda Metals and Alloys 27029 MT and Sharda Energy Minerals 60,500 MT totalling to 87,529 MT in the Inner Harbour at EQ-7.

Earlier, VPT used to handle 32.5 metres beam vessels till date. Now, due to a simulation study in October, 2019 held in Singapore, VPT improved its handling capacity of bigger size vessels up to 45-metre beam into the inner harbour.

Chairman of the VPT K Rama Mohana Rao commended those concerned in berthing the vessel at EQ-7. He stated that the VPT will continue to make efforts to handle bigger vessels in future.
