Warangal: The civic body of the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) has approved several developmental works with an outlay of Rs 93.95 crore during the General Body meeting on Tuesday. Speaking at the Council meeting, Mayor Gunda Prakash Rao said that an action plan is on the anvil to turn Warangal as a tourist hub and spiritual centre. "Rangasamudram would be developed as a tourist centre. This apart, beautification of Chinna Waddepally tank will also be taken up," the Mayor said.

He said that plans are afoot to repair the roads and drains that were damaged during the floods in mid-August with Rs 25 crore sanctioned by the State Government. The Mayor said that they have passed a resolution to hike the pay of outsourcing employees to Rs 17,500. The proposals in this regard would be sent to government for approval, he added. Mayor said that it was decided to allow all the Corporators, including co-option members, to allot developmental works worth Rs 5 lakh on nomination basis in their divisions. Municipal Commissioner Pamela Satpathy said that their focus is on sanitation. Six more sweeping machines will be procured in addition to the existing two, she said. "We have sent proposals to the government for its approval for the recruitment of staff for 268 vehicles," Pamela Satpathy said.

Division 6 Corporator Chintala Yadagiri sought the Council to include the garbage collection fee in the property tax. The income raised through the garbage collection fee should be paid to Swachh auto drivers, he added.

Kesireddy Madhavi, the 36th Division Corporator, sought the Council to keep a tab on illegal constructions. Deputy Mayor Khaja Sirajuddin, Additional Commissioner Ch Nageshwar and Corporators were among others present.
