Spurned lover set girl ablaze, dies along with her in Kochi

This horrific incident happened at Athani Juma Masjid in Kalangadu near Kakkanad in Kerala's Ernakulam district on Wednesday midnight.
A 17-year-old girl Devika is studying Intermediate second year. The alleged attacker, Midhun who also stays in the same area, has been harassing Devika in the name of love and proposed to marry her. For which, she refused his proposal.
With this, Midhun decided to kill Devika and her family members. In this context, Midhun went to her residence on a bike at midnight on Wednesday, knocked on the door and demanded to see her.
Devika long with her father came out of the house. Immediately, Midhun took out the petrol bottle, poured it on Devika and lighted her. In the attempt, the fire also caught on Midhun and engulfed him. Devika's father tried to rescue his daughter but went in vain. He also suffered burn injuries. The locals informed the police over the incident.
The police reached the spot, immediately rushed the victims to the hospital. While receiving the treatment, Midhun and Devika died in the hospital. On the incident, the police registered a case and investigating further.
