Meditation panel sought extended time over Ayodhya land dispute case

NEW DELHI: On Friday, in the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi land title dispute case the Supreme Court had granted additional time to a three-member special mediation panel. To find an amicable solution for the dispute, the court has extended the time till August 15.

On December 6, 1992, the Babri Masjid was constructed at the disputed site of Mir Baqi which was demolished in the 16th century by Shia Muslim Mir Baqi.

A five-member Constitutional bench which was headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, Justices SA Bobde, SA Nazeer, Ashok Bhushan and DY Chandrachud.

CJI Ranjan Gogoi told the panel "what progress has been made...that's confidential."

An interim report has already been submitted by the panel in a sealed cover before the Supreme Court.

As per sources, the interim report was filed with the apex court Registry on May 6, following which the matter was listed for hearing on Friday.

The members of the meditation committee, was comprised of former apex court judge FMI Kalifulla, spiritual guru and founder of Art of Living foundation Sri Sri Ravishankar and senior advocate Sriram Panchu, a renowned mediator.
