BENGALURU: On Sunday in the city, the much-touted census of trees, Project Vruksha a mobile app, was launched with SG Neginhal, a retired IFS officer, and Revathy Ashok, managing trustee-CEO, Bangalore Political Action Committee (BPAC).

Officials will be using the app to create a tree map, by clicking pictures of trees in all the 198 wards of the city and uploading their details, including location, girth, size, type, age and health.

Environmentalist Vijay Nishanth, said that, the first-of-its-kind tree census app in the world will be providing details about any tree in the city.

While interacting with the media, Neginhal a pioneer in urban forestry had said, "When I was an officer, my team had planted saplings in all these areas and today they have grown into huge trees."
