Hyderabad: A gang of 11 persons, who were operating a cricket betting racket by using three telephone intercom facilities with 52 separate lines, was apprehended by East and South Zone Task Force on Friday.

Police seized telephone line boxes, five TV sets, three laptops, three set top boxes, a printer and a cash of Rs 58,000 from their possession.

The accused--Md Abdul Khadeer, Shaik Mohammed Ghouse, Shaik Shameer Basha, Shaik Imran, G Kiran Kumar, V Dharma Raju, P Vamshi Krishna, Patan Mohammed Khan, Abdul Imran, Shaik Chand Pasha and Shaik Basha--were arrested at New Bagh Amberpet in the city.
“Ghouse and Khadeer got a betting contract from Mumbai and appointed the other nine members to receive calls and assist them during the matches. They have been doing this business for the past one year,” said B Limba Reddy, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Commissioner’s Task Force.
With their Mumbai contact, they keep getting the favorites and booking rates which they communicate with known punters and collect betting requests from them and provide them the betting rates from time to time, Reddy explained.
