Datsun adds yet another stallion to their stable in India. After the GO, GO+ it’s the redi-GO this time. The redi-GO has been launched into the entry level hatch segment which already has its fair share of contenders.

The redi-GO will be available in a total of 5 variants; The D, A, T, T(O), and the S in increasing order. Datsun has priced it from Rs. 2.38 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base D variant, and all the way up to Rs. 3.34 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top of the line S model which gets the driver-side airbag.

The redi-GO also gets the much advertised; highest ground clearance in the segment. It also gets segment first LED DRLs above the fog lamps for the top S variant. The car is mainly targeted at the youth with its funky, out of the box styling, bright colours, and the low price tag.

On the inside it gets freshly designed interiors with a three spoke steering wheel, a music system with a piano black surround (available in the mid T variant) with CD, USB and AUX connectivity options. The front seats get integrated headrests and look adequately comfortable.

Being based on the Renault Kwid, the redi-GO gets the same 799cc power plant under the hood. It is a petrol unit that outputs 53 HP of power at 5678 RPM and 72 Nm of torque at 4386 RPM which comes mated to a 5-Speed Manual gearbox. It also gets a small turning radius of 4.7 metres which should help in those tight situations.

On the safety front, the top S variant gets an airbag, and Datsun claims all of its variants to be fitted with energy absorbent seats and steering wheel, which should help if things go wrong. However, crash tests have not been kind to the Renault Kwid, on which the redi-GO is based.

The Japanese automaker claims that the maintenance cost of the redi-GO is lower than Maruti Alto by 32 percent. It comes with an unlimited warranty of 2 years which can also be extended. For better after sales, Datsun has launched Mobile Service Vans for Tier II and Tier III cities.

These vans are based on the GO + for better reach across the country. Customers can also choose different cosmetic kits and the automaker is offering four kits – Kool Kit, Urban Kit, Style Kit and Easy Kit. There are a total of 50 accessories on offer.
