Staff of the Office of the Commissioner of Customs Preventive, Vijayawada, planted saplings in the site of the Customs Preventive Commissionerate at Kesarapalli in Krishna district on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, Andhra Pradesh Customs Commissioner SK Rehman underlined the need to plant saplings as a mass movement to curb environmental pollution.

Proposals were sent to the government for construction of the Customs Preventive Commissionerate and Central Excise and Service Tax Commissionerate in the allotted 4 acres of land at a cost of Rs 55 crore. The plantation of saplings was taken up in the allotted site to ensure that the area gets a lush green cover by that time the customs office buildings are ready in 2018. All the customs staff took part in the plantation drive as their social responsibility, he said.
