Drusyavedika, a new cultural audience club, organised a unique music and dance programme on Thursday evening at Gayatri conventional hall in the city. The programme was designed in two parts. In the first part of the programme, the artistes exhibit their individual talent in Carnatic and Hindustani music styles and also Bharatanatyam and Kathak dance forms. In the second part of the programme the jugalbandi(battle of the styles) between Carnatic and Hindustani music with Bharatanatyam and Kathak.
The first part of the programme commenced with a Debra Mururavali prayer. Later Ragam-Tanam-Pallvi in Suddhasaveri ragam was excellently performed by Hemadri Chandrakat on violin. This was ably supported by B Suresh on mridangam. N Rasagna and Haneela performed a Bharatanatyam duet and presented “swarajati” in sudhasaveri ragam of Muttuswamy Deekshitar krithi “Jalaja nayana Siva Sankara Hara”.
The artistes’ expressions and perfect gestures of hands and eyes have attracted the attention of the spectators. Mruduravali, Chandrakanth and Suresh rendered support to this item. Dr P Himasagarchandra Murthy exhibited awesome talent on Sitar. He played Bibas raga. The style of presenting the keerthans impressed the audience. L Prabhakar efficiently rendered support on Tabla.
This was followed by kathak dance of H Lekhyabharani. Her ‘hava, bhava prakatana’ and foot work received applause from the connoisseurs. The second part of the programme was the ‘Jugulbandi’ between carnatic and Hindustani instrumental music with Bharatanatyam and Kathak dance forms. Ravali started the pallavi in Simhedramadyama ragam and it was followed by Chandrakanth on violin and then Suresh on mridangam.
The sammelanam(coming together) of dance and music was exceptionally good and Kalyana ragam was given a lead for this sammelanam. The ‘Nritta vinyasam’ and ‘abhinaya vinyasam’ were presented by artistes Rasagna, Haneela and Lekhyabharani.
In a brief meeting on this occasion the founder Hemadri Prasad said that this was formed to revive the concept of cultural audience clubs to generate new and qualitative programmes. The programme was dedicated to devotional singer Pasumarthy Phanikumar. The anchor Indraja efficiently conducted the programme. Appropriate lighting was controlled by Suresh while sound was handled by P Bhaskara Sarma.
