Playing it safe

Designers kept it simple and played safe with their silhouettes on Day Three of the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2017 currently underway in Mumbai. While labels like ‘Chola’ and ‘#TagFree’ shined with their contemporary designs, most of the ‘well-known’ ones like ‘Amoh by Jade’, ‘Madam Tinzin’, ‘Divya Seth’ and others stuck to run-of-the-mill lehangas albeit with a bohemian vibe; their only saviour was the magic provided by using capes.

Nevertheless, the collections were visually surreal and the choices of fabric varied from hand-woven khadis to metallics to silks. Of course, Payal Singhal impressed with her ‘Lady M’ collection that was inspired by the mysterious vibes of Agatha Christie’s novel ‘Death on the Nile’. The fabric choice was ideal for the inspirations as georgette; tulle, silk and dupion silk were the foundation for the ultra glam line.

At ‘half-time’ on the day, it was Label Ritu Kumar that stole the show with her easy-breezy comprehensive collection; it featured all the trends of the season, had a distinct understanding of the Indian summer and most importantly it had a piece for every body type found in India. Now, that’s a ready-to-wear we want!
